LO5: Presentation

LO5: Photo Gallery

I am wanting my photography to be presented in a gallery like the images above. I look the dim subtle low key lighting as it adds to the gritty theme. I also like the background being a dark brick wall, as this reflects the location I focused my photography on (Sheffield Streets).

LO5: Evaluations

I have named all of my photos in French titles. The reason why I have done this is because France/Paris is a big Fashion originating place, where main fashion designers come from. It matches with my theme Fashion, as well as giving it a unique touch. It also represents how Sheffield has an international culture.

Formelles

Formelles is French for formal, I chose do to name this picture in French as my theme is fashion and fashion originated from France. I took this image on 18/04/2016. The location is outdoors in Sheffield City center as my whole idea is based on fashion styles I have seen frequently in Sheffield. The weather was mild when this image was taken

The denotations of this image is an eye level angle with a Portrait shot. This image connotes secrecy as the model is using indirect mode of address. The indirect mode of address was purposely used to signify the meaning of this image. The whole style is formal, classy and very elegant; however the chic black fur adds power and eager, which all creates juxtaposition in this image. The model is connoting shyness, due to the white classy elegant outfit worn by her. The position and pose the model is in connotes a dominant, powerful confident look, which all contrasts with one another to create this formal glamorous style, which is a style I saw frequently in Sheffield; especially towards night in the City center.

The main photographic techniques used in this image are: Composition, focal point, lighting and narrative. How I composed my image helped the focal point in my photo. The model and her style needed to be the focal point of the image, so when composing the image I made sure my model was in center of the image. I did this successfully. The narrative was reflected through how I directed the model. The catwalk pose and indirect mode of address juxtaposed itself to reinforce the narrative of two different emotions. I planned to do the shoot on this day as I knew it would be partly cloudy which meant it would be high key natural lighting, which was my intention. As the whole of my idea is based around fashion in Sheffield, I wanted my photos to be in Sheffield, but in a subtle area as I wanted the focus on the model and the clothing she modeled. So the lighting need to be natural as I was outside.

My aim for this image was not to edit to harshly, as I personally don't like to edit my images, and I wanted the focus on the fashion, so harsh editing will have taken the focal point away. I simply used the blur tool around the model and blurred the background on a low strength, so that the image was slightly out of focus, just to help emphasise the model. This made my image a shallow depth of field, which helped connote the importance of the model.

Photographers that inspired me for this type of photography was George Elder, the reason why I was so inspired by this photographer was because he grasped the focal point of his photographs. The model and the fashion he was reflecting in his image was the main focus, and the street formed background help create the movement of the style and the depth of the meaning. I have similarly used these techniques throughout the my photos as the meaning is emphasise through the model and how I have composed her. Although my "street theme" is more secretive and hasn't got the momentum and movement of the busy streets Elder uses, the meaning is still reflected throughout the photo as his.
Garcon Manqué'

Garcon Manqué is French for tom boy. I titled this image in French as the main theme is fashion and fashion originated from France. I took this image on the 18/04/2016, as I knew that the weather was going to be mild, meaning there was high key natural lighting.

The denotations for this image is a an eye level angle, landscape shot photo. The intention for this photo was to show the urban style that was fluent in Sheffield. The tom boy look, which is expandable in many opinions corresponds with the new rising urban fashion. Sheffield is a great city to obsess over a tom boy urban look, with the grittiness and rough areas. I wanted to create a dominant figure for this fashion style, and I think it has been successful; however I would maybe change the clothing as the white connotes innocence. Although in a way this could be a good thing as again my image is juxtaposed with emotions, which brings lots of different interpretations to it. As this will be shown in the Sheffield Art gallery it will be good as everyone can have a different analysis on this image as its open. The pose

I have used a variety of photographic techniques on this image. I have used composition, lighting, deep depth of field and narrative. I have composed this image very well, the model is centre of attention, which draws the viewer's attention to her fashion style. High key natural lighting has been used as the image was taken in a Sheffield area, to reinforce this is a Sheffield based fashion idea. The lighting is very subtle and not to harsh, which helped me with the exposure of the image. I wanted everything to be in focus for this image, as the location is where you typically would see a skater tomboy style, as it is very edgy. The whole model and location was significantly important. How I directed the model to pose reflects the narrative of edgy hard core dominance. The strut full harsh pose reinforce the idea of the roughness of Sheffield, which I admire.

In terms of editing I again did not want to harshly editing my image, as this would take the whole intention away. I used the clone stamp tool help define and colour match the skin on both her legs and face. I as well used the liquefy tool to pull back skin. I used the blur tool slightly on the background, but very weakly as I was still wanting deep depth of field in the image. All these editing techniques were very light, and did not create major difference in my photos. The image looks unedited as I didn't harshly edit the image.

For my street fashion photography I was inspired by the photographer George Elder, as his photography went with my style and theme. The subject matter in his images was reflected efficiently, which was inspirational, as it reflected his whole theme of photographer. When I did my photography I changed elements of his work however patchiced some, like making the fashion/model the focal point of my image.

Roche

This image is based on a rock/punk style I saw a lot around Sheffield. Roche is French for Rock. I took this image on this day 18/04/2016 at this location as it is very subtle and bland, so the focus and attention was on the model.

A eye level angle and landscape/ wide shot is denoted in this photo. The intention for this image was to create a bland plain look. The reason for this was the rock/Gothic style is very dark empty colours. As my whole idea/theme is reinforce the fashion styles seen in Sheffield, so I wanted to reinforce the emotions that came out of the fashion styles. I personally feel this fashion style really fit in with the grittiness and edginess of Sheffield, as it was dark, and cold fashion style; however it was slick and vibrant at the same time, which is why it was such a popular style I saw in Sheffield.

The techniques I have used in this image is composition, lighting, deep depth of field and in a way texture. The background is filled with texture, which makes the picture vibrant and relate to Sheffield. I have composed this image like the previous images; however I have centered my model slightly to the left, as I wanted negative space to reinforce the emotionless style. I have used natural lighting in this image, which reflects Sheffield. High key lighting has been used to bring out my model and her style. I have purposely used deep depth of field because in this picture everything is important, the background works well with the fashion style.

I have edited this image quite harshly, as I wanted to reflect the dark cool side to this style. I have used the brightness and contrast tool on Photoshop to create a dark tone on this image. The tone bring an element of an older era as its misty and edgy. To create the dark look to this photo I brought down the brightness of the image, which helped emphasize the negative space I composed. I also turned the contrast up slightly to define the features, especially on the model and her style.

George Elder was my inspiration for this type of photography. He mainly focused on street fashion photography; however the difference between mine and his is that he used busy streets as a background where as my background is empty to reflect the street and Sheffield.
Classique

I took this image in a quiet Sheffield location as this was my whole idea to symbol the fashion in Sheffield. 18/04/2016 is when I took this image as I the weather was forecast mild, so the natural lighting wouldn't be harsh on the image.

A slight low angle has been denoted in this image, as well as a portrait shot. The intention for this image was to create a vibrant and colourful, to reinforce the emotions of the Classy, peppy fashion style. The facial expression on the models face connotes innocence and purity, which really works well with the style and what the reflects. The pose the model has done signifies her confidence and the sophistication of the clothing, which makes the photo work. This is successful as it reflects different emotions that come with this style. The low angle was used to connote dominance and power, as the style is very dressy and confident. This helped reflect the feelings of the style more efficiently.

Techniques that I have used in this shoot is composition, focal point, lighting and deep depth of field. The way I have composed this image is so the model is central, I directed the model to be in this position, which helped to then emphasise the focal point. Composing this image created the focal point, which is the model. The model is the focal point as the whole theme is reflecting her clothing. Natural high key lighting has been used, as I was outside on a mildly sunny day. Deep depth of field has been used as everything is important in this photo. The location and model is both as important as each other, as they relate to the brief.

I have added a light pink colour to this photo, to reflect the emotions that come out of the fashion.
The light pink connotes happiness, dreamy and sophistication, which reinforces the meaning of my photography. I created this light pink effect by using the magnetic tool and selecting the background, I then simply changed the hue to creates a light pink effect. I also used the spot healing tool to remove any spots that appeared on her face, and the blur tool to smoother it out. The effect this had was it created an Ideal self.

A photographer I can compare this style to is George Elder has he focused on capturing the fashion in streets, and the movement and momentum of the background. I captured the fashion the model was wearing in a subtle area of Sheffield. This is where I differ from  the photographer I was inspired by, as he captured the movement of streets, where as I used the empty street and fashion to fit in with identity and the brief I was given.

Sophistique'

This photo was taken on the 18/04/2016 at a alley way in Sheffield City Center. The weather was mild, which was effective as the sun wasn't to harsh on the photo. The locations lacked emotions, which brought the emotions out of the clothes more effectively.

An eye level, portrait shot is denoted in this image. The meaning behind this image is to portray the work/sophisticated look that is a frequent style in Sheffield. The intention for this image was to create a dominating but innocent look. The look is very powerful, as it is business like; however is portrayed as innocent as its formal and classy. The juxtaposed emotions needed to be reflected through my photography. The facial expressions and my model are very subtle and connote innocence, the wind in her hair also adds to this! The pose the model is doing reflects the dominance and power.

Techniques I have used throughout this photo are focal point, composition, deep depth of field and lighting. I have composed my image by directing my model to pose in this certain position, as it connotes power and dominance, which was my initial intention. Composing my photo helped me create a focal point, as well as creating deep depth of field. I was able to emphasise the model and what she wore, as this relates to fashion identity; however when taking photos I used deep depth of field, as everything was important in my photography. The reason why everything was important was because my whole intention was to reflect the fashion in Sheffield. I used high key natural lighting, as my photos were taken outside- this lightened the mood of the photo.

I didn't want to harshly edit this image, as I thought it would take away the meaning from my photography. I used the clone tool to remove any spots from the model and to define her face. I also used the blur tool to smoother her care. This created an ideal self. I also used the brightness and contrast tool to bring her light, which emphasise her clothing as well as reinforcing the sophisticated and powerful look.

George Elder is a photographer I can link to my photography to as he took pictures in the style of street fashion photography. I also followed this genre, to relate to my brief of Fashion Identity in Sheffield. In ways I share similarities with George Elders photography as we used the same style, and really emphasised the fashion reflected. However I differed from Georges photography as he used busy locations where as I chose empty streets as I felt it suited my intention better.

Garcon Manqué'

18/04/2016 was the date this image was taken. I chose to take it on this day as the weather was mild, meaning the lighting wouldn't be so harsh on the image. The locations in part of Sheffield City Centre and is very empty and basic to bring out the fashion.

A slight low angle has been denoted on this image, as well as a portrait shot. The meaning behind this image is to reflect the funky, happy emotion that is reflected through this fashion style. It was to reinforce frequent fashion styles that were worn around Sheffield. The intention for this shoot was to create a laid-back, cheesy look- as it is an outgoing urban style.  The look is very free, and was worn more buy a teenage age group, so this photo will appeal to a younger audience. The models facial expression signifies the happy, silly attitude the fashion connotes, her body language is laid-back and chilled, which could represent the stereotypes of a lazy teenager.

I have used a variety of techniques throughout this photo, such as composition, focal point, lighting and deep depth of field. I composed my image by directing my model to stand and pose in this certain position, as it gained the best effect. The body language used signifies the chill urban feel the fashion brings. Composing my image helped me gain the focal point, which is the model and the clothing she models. The focal point goes with the whole idea, Fashion Identity within Sheffield. The lighting was natural on this photo as I was going with the theme Street in Sheffield, so this meant the lighting had to be high key natural lighting. Deep depth of field has been used to show that everything is important as it reflects my idea of Fashion in Sheffield.

When editing this image I didn't want to edit harshly, as this would have taken the meaning away and how my photo fits within the brief. The only editing I used was the clone tool and blur tool to smoother her skin out. I also played with the brightness and contrast and selected the model with the magnetic lasso tool, so that the background was slightly darker and the model was light so she would be the main focus of the image. This helped reflect the fashion.

I based my photography around George Elders style,
GRUNGE

I took this photo on the 18/04/2016 as the weather was mild meaning it wouldn't be too harsh the lighting on my images. The location is part of Sheffield, as I am representing Sheffield's Identity; however I chose this location as it is empty. It doesn't carry many emotions, which emphasises the clothing.
